Are we doing Christmas right?

Every Christmas season I find myself asking this question: Are we doing it right? But the question implies that there is a wrong way to celebrate Christmas or only one right way.  Are we celebrating Christmas in a way that would reflect our faith, our worldview?

Are we being selfish? Too busy? Consumed with materialism and shopping? Forgetting the reason for our celebration?  Giving gifts out of obligation instead of sincerity?  Are we being ritualistic or legalistic in our celebration rather than authentic?

This year we've added...Santa or no Santa!! Here we are one week into December, and Drew and I still haven't come to an agreement...

Last year, following a sermon series called The Greatest Stories Never Told, I bought the this box set.

I've enjoyed learning about the evolution of the traditions and songs of Christmas and hope one day to teach them to Callen.  Knowing the history has enriched the holiday for me.  Maybe I'll share a few stories...when I have time!

How was Dec 25th selected as Jesus' birthday since it is widely accepted that he wasn't born in the winter?
What is boxing day?  (Confession: I always thought it had to do with the sport.)
Who was Good King Wenceslas and what is the Feast of Stephen?
What is figgy pudding? (won't go until we get some, sounds a little demanding)

We hope you're family has found a healthy balance of giving and receiving and embracing cultural and spiritual traditions.  For the Millers, our balance is still evolving.
